PET-G Profiles

Polyethylene terephthalate glycol known as PET-G is a modification of Polyethylene terephthalate known as PET. The modification, however, eliminated some of the shortcomings of PET. PET-G contains glycol, which induces a much lower melting point and keeps the material transparent under all circumstances. This plastic is ideal for flat and cold folding applications. PET-G is utilized in the construction and visual communication industry.

Material qualities

PET-G is a robust and impact-resistant plastic and the most fire-resistant transparent plastic at this moment. The material is excellent for use in the food industry as it can be sterilized with gamma rays and ethylene oxide. The material can be formed and shaped in a cold state, making it an easily malleable plastic. The material can be produced in a variety of colors.

Colors

PET-G is perfectly colorless and transparent, furnishing it with a high light transmission and glossy surface. At the same time, PET-G can be easily colored.

Fire safety

PET-G classifies as highly fire-resistant material (Class B1); it is, therefore, the only transparent plastic that is allowed for use on airports.

Painting

PET-G requires sanding or polishing before it can be painted.

PET-G can be produced in many different transparent colors.

Welding

PET-G can be welded with high frequency and ultrasonic techniques.

Chemical resistance

PET-G is utterly resistant against diluted solutions like acids, alkalis, soaps, and salts. On top of that, it is also well resistant against oil, aliphatic hydrocarbons, and alcohol. PET-G is, however, affected and dissolved by ketone, aromatic, and halogenated hydrocarbons.
